A knight shown as having crossed legs in his effigy was reputed to have gone on crusade; since crusaders were not finally expelled from the Holy Land until 1282, Sir John d'Aubernoun would seem to have been the only one who was not a crusader. A knight whose feet rested on a lion was said to have died in battle. It would seem that only Sir Roger de Trumpington died peacefully.
